In Vancouver the show is at GM Place which is the big hockey arena in Vancouver (it seats 18000+)....that's where all the big acts play when they go to Vancouver....here in calgary it's at a place called the Jubilee Auditorium which is a smaller auditorium that seats maybe 3000 or something (I'm really not sure, only been there a few times)...it isn;t a club, it's more of a theater kind of thing...they do lots of ballet's, musicals, and even a lot of name acts that can't sell out the big arena play there quite a bit...

Hey guys keep in mind that Diana Krall gets paid $20,000 for herself per performance. Is that the current union scale?! <marquee>"Keep It In The Pocket" PT.</marquee>

Exactly PT...Diana is more of a "mainstream" kind of player...much more than the vast majority of Jazz artists that have ever existed...with her last few albums she has managed to get crossover success, pulling in fans who wouldn't normally listen to jazz music...how many other jazz artists do you know of whose albums sell millions of copies world wide...so her concerts are on a much larger scale than your regular jazz artist...I think you have to think of it in terms of what you would pay to watch your more big name mainstream acts, as opposed to your regular jazz artists who, the vast majority of the time, don't get mainstream success

It is also important that many of the artist that we here at HOD really dig make their livings in Europe and Asia. For instance, when was the last time TOTO did a tour of the states? Whereas in Japan those guys sell multi-shows and large venues. That is one of the main reasons that Cobham moved to Sweden so many years ago. Here in the states their was not an audience or venues to get booked in to not to mention venues and tour companies could not afford these artists the minimum that they required. It is sad. I would pay $100 to see Krall with Erskine before I would pay the same amount to see Brittney Spears. Although she does have a pretty burnin band. Still not worth the $100. PT.

*Whew*. Then again, i don't think even Sanborn/Chick/Metheny are at that level of demand [& pay]. [Aak. Sometimes I don't necessarily feel comfortable talking about how others do their business.]
So you're saying she's more in the Kenny G/Grover Washington Jr/Yanni/Tesh category, then?
Sanborn [& band] is popular, but live, i consider him not in the Yanni G category, as they stretch out WAY more within those confines, live. Very hip.
And BTW, is not his band mostly if not all consisting of hot NYC session players? [That was for you, Ost. ]

Man, Dean Brown was with DS when you saw them? Killer.
He wasn't the gtrst when i saw him in FL. [Sorry, didn't catch the guy's name.] I'm very grateful that, altho one often can't understand the mumblings of a bandleader over a mic in a 'washy' hall, one can still hear the music pretty darn well! ]
I've really dug DB ever since the very 1st Stv Smith Vital Info album was released back in '83, & the stuff he did w Cobham.
Take a listen to the tune "Blade," off the 2nd Vital I release, "Orion"...great contempo swing-bop-fusion tune with a great jazz-fusion gtr solo...[If I'm not mistaken, i believe he also played that cool gtr solo on Sting's version of Hendrix' "Little Wing"]
BTW - back to the subject...anything with Erskoman on it is gold

Fuse,
You're far too kind, but ... THANK YOU.
Greetings, all, from Phoenix where we are rehearsing for the upcoming Diana Krall tour. REALLY nice band, with Anthony Wilson on guitar and Bob Hurst playing the bass.
And I got a new Yamaha Maple Custom/Nouveau kit: 4-piece, 14x18" kick, 8X12" rack + 14x14" floor tom, plus 4x14" snare ... in RED SPARKLE!
(Same color as my very first drumset, found for me by my teacher in 1960 when I was 5 or 6 years old, a used Gretsch round badge kit from the 50s! This new kit ... I get such a good energy from it ... every time I look at it, let along play it/hear it!)
Life is good. Thanks fellow HOD'ers for the enthusiasm ...
hope to see some of you this spring and summer on the road w/ DK.
All the best,
PE

Peter, if you see a guy coming towards you with a dynasonic in his hand while doing the clinic in Calgary, Alberta in May, try not to run...LOL You can borrow it if you want
Mani
PS: from all the info i've gotten off the net, i'm not completely sure as to how well/correctly i have it set up, but right or wrong, it's exactly the sound i've been searching for for over 10 years!
Thanks again for your help finding the snare frame!
